Located at the Hall of State, Fair Park, this fascinating museum operates on a non-profit basis, with the majority of its collection on display in the Sharp Gallery. It opens on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9am to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. The museum is shut on Mondays. Its general aim is to provide an educational, cultural and entertaining experience for both adults and children alike. It achieves this through the presentation of fascinating miniature art pieces in an exciting and interactive environment. It was founded in the mid-1980s, and came about through many volunteers and countless fundraising efforts. The world of the miniatures goes back as far as the Pharaohs, when were placed in the tombs of Egyptian kings in order to make their travels to the afterlife as pleasant as possible. The very impressive collection in the museum consists of both permanent and traveling exhibits of dollhouses and miniatures, dolls and antique toys. Private collections are often loaned to the museum for exhibition. Each item on show normally depicts a different style, whether it is a captain's coastal Victorian home or a 16th century French home. Tiny, but beautifully detailed garden scenes are another favorite. |
